For me, the memoir is a hyphen—
the symbolic present—between time past
captured in remembrances, and time future
hidden perhaps in my imagination.

The written word can be expunged,
the spoken, silenced,
the persistent thought, stilled.

But the permanence of memory
nurtures time past as also
the time future that lies
like an embryo
in time past.
