🏠 1. Accommodation & Utilities:
Rent is your biggest expense and varies significantly by city (Munich and Hamburg are much more expensive than Leipzig or Essen).

Rent: €300 – €600. Student dorms (WG) are the most affordable option.

Electricity: Often not included in "warm" rent. Budget €40 – €60 per month.

Radio Tax (Rundfunkbeitrag): This is mandatory for every household. It’s roughly €18.36 per month. If you live in a shared flat (WG), you can split this cost with your roommates!

πŸ₯ 2. Health Insurance:
If you are under 30, you can get public health insurance (like TK or AOK), which is specifically tailored for students.
Cost: Approximately €120 – €140 per month. It’s a bit of a jump, but it covers almost all your medical needs.

🍎 3. Groceries & Food:
Eating out is pricey, but grocery shopping is surprisingly affordable if you stick to discounters like Aldi, Lidl, or Netto.
Monthly Budget: €150 – €200. * Pro Tip: Use your "Mensa" (university cafeteria) for lunchβ€”it’s usually only €3–€5 for a full meal!

πŸš† 4. Transportation:
The Deutschland-Ticket (semester ticket upgrade) is a lifesaver.
Cost: Usually around €29 – €49 depending on your university's specific agreement. This gives you unlimited regional travel across the entire country!

πŸ“± 5. Miscellaneous & Fun:
Don't forget the small things that add up:
Internet/Phone: €30 – €50.
Leisure (Cinema, Drinks, Sports): €50 – €100.

Semester Fee: Don't forget this! It's paid every 6 months (approx. €250 - €400) and covers admin costs and your transit pass.

πŸ’° The Bottom Line:
While you can survive on €900, a more realistic budget for a comfortable student life in most German cities is €1,000 – €1,200 per month.
