Exciting News – India to Host ISL 2028! πŸŽ‰

It is my great pleasure to announce that India has been selected as the host of the 15th International Symposium on Landslides (ISL) 2028. This achievement reflects the hard work and collaborative efforts of several key organizations and individuals.

Our bid was strongly supported by:

- Indian Society of Engineering Geology (ISEG)
- Indian National Group of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM)
- Indian Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS)

We are also grateful for the backing of:

- National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), Sri Lanka
- Nepal Geotechnical Society
A special thanks to Dr. Minu Treesa Abraham from the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) and Dr. Kunal Gupta for their support.

We look forward to organizing a remarkable symposium in 2028 and working together with all stakeholders to make ISL 2028 a grand success.

Warm regards,
Dr. Neelima Satyam Devarakonda, JTC1 Member and NEC Member IGS

Wayanad Landslide Disaster: When Nature Rewrote the Map 18/08/2024

🌧 A Sobering Study of Wayanad Landslides

Our research on landslides in Wayanad (Kerala) has been highlighted in The Hindu’s Frontline section. In Geohazards Lab, we are working on modeling of landslides in regions like Western ghats and Himalays to better understand these phenomena, given the increased frequency of extreme rainfall events.

More information on our ongoing research can be obtained by contacting the Geohazards Research Lab ([email protected]) or Professor Neelima Satyam ([email protected]).

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Dr. Kunal Gupta! πŸŽ‰

Kunal successfully defended his thesis on 16/08/24 and is now a proud graduate of GeoHazards Lab IIT Indore. Over the past three years, Kunal has been working under the guidance of Prof. Neelima Satyam Devarakonda, focusing on co-seismic landslides. His PhD work includes 9 publications in reputed journals including Engineering Geology and Landslides (Google Scholar link - https://shorturl.at/u9dwB). He has been a PMRF fellow, addressing issues of national importance.

We at the GeoHazards Lab extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Kunal Gupta and Prof. Neelima Satyam for this incredible accomplishment.
