How was the Solar system formed!

About 4.5 billion years back, a cloud of gas and dust started collapsing in on itself due to shock waves from a nearby supernova explosion. (stage A in the picture)

As more and more material collapsed towards the center, the cloud started spinning faster and faster and developed gravity which made it a flat spinning disk of dust and gas. (stage B)

When enough material was collected at the center of the disk, Nuclear fusion reaction began. Nuclear fusion happens when hydrogen nuclei fuse together to form helium. (stage C)
This nuclear fusion released a lot of energy and that’s how Sun was born.

Some parts of the dust material were left behind and they clumped together to form planets, dwarf planets, asteroids and comets. (stage D)

Dust and rocks stayed relatively closer to Sun and formed the rocky inner planets, The gases wandered farther to form outer gaseous planets.
The remaining material formed the Asteroids, comets, dwarf planets etc.

Our Solar system is part of the Milky way Galaxy.

Milky way is a spiral shaped galaxy and is about 100,000 light years in diameter.
It is also 1,000 light years in thickness and houses up to 400 billion stars.

Sun is orbiting around the centre of Milky way galaxy and takes about 230 million years to complete one orbit.
Milky way galaxy became so huge by engulfing other smaller galaxies.

Any picture that you see of the Milky way galaxy is a hypothetical image, because we are sitting inside the galaxy and cannot go out of it to take an image from outside .
