𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧.

𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐈 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞.

It seems perfectly fine, right? But let me tell you the problem with this statement. This is the 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒔. When we use such sentences our brain completely discards the statement before "But". For our brain avoiding pain becomes important and it completely discards "𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑". So if you have two conflicting desires replace "But" with the "And".

𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧.

It completely changes the meaning of your communication.

The meaning of communication is not what you want to communicate, the meaning of communication is the response you get.
