The vision was to design an energy-efficient house that would benefit from the natural phenomena like the cross ventilation, passive cooling, natural lighting etc. The plan and the volume of the spaces were hence worked on carefully to improve the efficiency of the built spaces that blends seamlessly with the exterior. A conscious study was rendered to retain all the existing vegetation within the site and to insert the built space appropriately. The idea of a large central courtyard emerged as a design solution to retain adult trees in the heart of the site. Subsequently, the built spaces evolved around the courtyard at the focus which would ensure uninterrupted flow of fresh-air and visually connect to every space within the house. Appropriate details like perforated false walls and double volumes were incorporated on the south and west side of the house, to craft thermally efficient and cooler interior spaces.

From the designers -
The house has been designed with 5 beds ,a spacious living ,dining area abutting a dry courtyard and a family living space with an extended spacious deck area. The kitchen block has been placed on the north east side of the plot and accessible from the adjacent paternal home.The lengthy 22m long sit out slab increasing the horizontality of the elevation for a seemingly linear house and serves as a meeting place for the client and family as an evening retreat space.The exposed concrete finish of the house adding to the ethnic theme of the residence.

The ethnic theme used throughout the house is evident in the cota stone used for flooring to the mud texture, the colors used in the partition, light fixtures and metal used in handrails and partitions ,the wood used in ceiling and handrails.The colored glass plays an important role to create loud spaces with natural light filtering through the skylight and bamboo screening.The wooden accent in the ceiling adds to the feel of space. Clean and clear lines are visible throughout the house and adds to the clarity of space.
