Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) solution removes more pesticide residue than plain water or bleach. It
was especially effective for surface residues (Study from University of Massachusetts Amherst, 2017)

Baking soda creates a mildly alkaline solution which helps break down certain pesticides &
loosen residues from the surface.

⚠️ IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS
1. Only works for surface pesticides
If pesticide has penetrated the skin (systemic pesticides) baking soda won’t remove it
2. Time matters- In the study: 12–15 mins of soaking was done.
👉 Quick rinsing is not effective
3. Not all pesticides behave the same
Some degrade easily
Others persist
