Happy Birthday to the strongest woman I’ve ever had in my life. Strong, because she fought her battles all alone, without letting anyone know, and without any fear. Strong, because she hid it all just so she wouldn’t bother me or our family, a legit middle-class family that even hesitated to get health insurance because of the small yearly cost. Strong, because she made the tough decision to quit her job when I was suffering from asthma and anxiety after being left at a caretaker’s place when I was around 3 years old. Strong, because she took the effort and apologised to me when I was 29, for what she called “bad parenting,” even though, like most parents of her generation, she had only made a few small, unintentional mistakes.(How many parents would do that?). Strong, because I still remember the day I heard that Mom had cancer, and that it was in its final stage. I burst into tears. And yet, she was the one who comforted me and said, “Life is such… go with the flow.” Everyone around her wished they had a mother like her, a friend like her, a sister like her, a partner like her, a mother-in-law like her… and maybe even a grandmother like her. Once again, happy birthday, Amma. Can’t wait to reunite with you on the other side of this universe. 🤍
