Interviews: Rare opportunities and not obstacles!

When we set our priority to get a job, our minds become equipped to face it confidently. It we have prepared enough, an interview will not be that difficult. It we condition our minds to take interviews positively, we can reduce stress and tensions associated with interviews.

Actually, job interview is nothing to be scared of. Generally interviewers create an informal atmosphere in a formal background to make job aspirants comfortable. The ambience becomes formal, when the job seeker accepts reality of an interview.

Types of Interviews:

Screening Interviews
Structured Interviews
Situational Interviews
Stress Interviews
Panel or board Interviews
Walk-in-Interviews
Video Interviews
Telephonic Interviews

Requirements of Employer:

Employers are looking for job aspirants, who are:

Confident
Competent
Hard working
Trainable
Loyal and
Able to handle job efficiently

Tricks of Employers:

Employers usually ask the applicants, very tough, strange, weird or difficult questions to analyse the candidate.
They try to know more about candidate, whether he/she would fit well into that organizations culture or not.
They plan strategic conversation with a purpose.

During the interview:

Be enthusiastic and well prepared
Be confident and sell your skills
Be aware of goals of the organization
Listen carefully and be interested

An interviewer tries to determine whether you are:

An achiever
Easy going
Proactive
Dependable
A self-starter
Stable
Contributor
Responsible
Quick leaver
Team Player
Intelligent

Screening Interview:

The first job interview is a screening interview that may be conducted over the phone or at the place of employment. Each job interview follows: a predictable communication pattern of warm information, exchange and wrap-up conversations.

Most Important Points:

During the first minute of the interview warm-up, the interviewer will be formulating a first and perhaps lasting impression of you.
How you greet the interviewer?
Firmness of your handshake.
The way you are groomed and dressed.

The above mentioned points become part of initial impression.

Be well prepared with common ground questions about yourself, your interest or acquaintances as some interviewers start by saying – “Tell me about yourself”. (An opening)
Promote your qualification effectively.
During warp up stage, interviewer asks – “Do you have any question?”
Always ask questions because this demonstrates your prior research and interest in the job. (Your question should be direct and logical).
Do not ask specific questions about salary or benefits, unless the employer brings the subject first.
On getting an opportunity to reply the interviewers, reply confidently as: “first impression is the best expression and last impression is the lasting impressing.”

Finally, to succeed in job interviews:

Develop effective job interview skills:

Selective presentation of your background.
Thoughtful answers to interview questions.
Well-researched questions about the organization.
Effective strategy to market yourself.

Research carefully about job and organization.
