The wedding breakfast is a traditional part of Western, particularly British, wedding customs. Despite its name, it does not necessarily take place in the morning. The term “breakfast” originates from the tradition of breaking the fast that the bride and groom observed before the wedding ceremony. Historically, couples were not allowed to eat before the marriage service, so the first meal shared afterward was called the wedding breakfast.
