With a heart full of gratitude, as the sun sets on another year, I feel that we need to pause to cherish the gifts we often take for granted: the precious gift of life, the fast decreasing currency of time, and the unwavering love and support of family and friends.
My younger son Rafay's favourite poem a few years ago was Leisure by WH Davies -link to the poem below- here just a line - "...No time to see, in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, like skies at night....A poor life this is if, full of care,We have no time to stand and stare."
To my Lucknow Farmers Market team—you are the heartbeat of our movement. Your dedication to our work - our farmers, artisans, and most importantly our planet is what makes this community possible. I am deeply thankful for your energy and your spirit.
I encourage everyone to take a moment (or two!) for yourself. Practice self-care—not as an indulgence, but as a necessity. Rest and recharge so you can return with renewed energy.
As I look to the future, I am guided by the wisdom of Guru Nanak:
Kirat Karo: Work with dedication so that what we do serves others.
Don’t eat what pollutes the body.
Don’t speak what hurts others.
Don’t think thoughts that pollute the mind.
May the year to come be a calmer, kinder, and more compassionate place for us all. Happy New Year from me to you.

Lucknow woh sheher hai, jahan raste nahi, rishte milte hain - these words came to life at the HSBC launch this week. It was a great evening spent with two people who truly embody the spirit of the city—Chef Ranveer Brar and Sandeep Batra.
Listening to them talk, it’s clear that their love for Lucknow isn't just about nostalgia; it shapes everything—from how they see our food and culture to that specific sense of fursat (leisure) we all value so much.
Sandeep Batra hit the nail on the head when he said that in Lucknow, "everyone is the friend of a friend." That’s exactly how our community works—everyone is connected through mehmannawazi and shared stories.
Chef Ranveer Brar reminded us that the soul of the city is still in its roots. He mentioned that until you’ve actually sat in Chowk for Kebab and Biryani, you haven't really "arrived" in Lucknow. He also gave a fascinating breakdown of Nihari, explaining its journey from a simple, nourishing stew for the common man to the legendary dish it is today.
Beyond the culture and the food, seeing an international bank like HSBC open a branch here is a big step for our city's growth. It means more investment, more jobs, and a stronger local economy—something we should all be excited about.
It was a proud moment for Lucknow, and I’m looking forward to the engaging events they have planned for the community at the branch.

This World Kindness Day, let’s contribute to educating girls—whether in your neighborhood or by supporting those at the Awadh Mango Growers Association. Basic education is a fundamental right. You can also volunteer to mentor girls at our Rural Livelihood Centre or connect with women entrepreneurs at Lucknow Farmers Market who seek incubation, funding, and other support. This Kindness Day, remember: kindness has a ripple effect, and together, we can make a lasting difference that multiplies across communities.
