I am sure many architects face this problem when the plot sizes small.
Finding the balance between open spaces and covered spaces?
The challenging part is that land is a costly commodity and MIG owners often see open areas as unused patches.
However, the design can accommodate these spaces if the benefits of these open areas are properly explained with respect to physical and mental health.
Recently I have noticed a progressive change in the approach of MIG clients who understand the significance of these spaces mostly because they have seen so many houses where the occupants are irritated of the fact that they have to walk to a park to see a single tree or that they have to keep the lights on for the entire day because there is not sufficient ventilation in the bedrooms.
I hope this becomes a widespread change which could improve the quality of architecture and living simultaneously.

*The area of the uploaded conceptual plan is 550 sq.ft. and to provide ventilation in the bedroom we gave a 3 feet wide passage at the rear end of the house.
Coupled with this is the bathroom which inevitably increased in size thus providing the occupants with proper sanitation spaces. Again the owners would have initially preferred a smaller bathroom and a smaller duct for ventilation.
