Throughout my 45 years in this highly dynamic and ever-evolving field of Infrastructure Project Logistics, I have seen that, in a country like India, ownership of transport hardware has become the raison d'etre to survive.

Those entities that can show proof of ownership are given preference by existing clients when it comes to cheek-by-jowl competition.

Two decades ago, ownership of Hydraulic Axle Trailers was the first moving force in this direction.

The Ministry of Road Transport, GOI, under the most able and dynamic leadership of Senior Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari, deftly handled the subject of ensuring that heavy cargo transport was given a special status, thereby bringing in critical safeguard measures.

What was considered as an also-ran industry, for more than 60 years, was given one of the most important statuses in the last 15.

This was possible, only, because of Shri Gadkari's enthusiasm and focused directives to the Bureaucracy.

Of course, this, coupled with our beloved Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi's directives on Make-in-India and Aatmanirbhar Schemes, gave a new impetus to the lifeline industry of India.

Yet, what we are lacking is investments in Marine equipment for Ultra Heavy Cargo and for the Offshore Industry. Indian players are few and far between in this game-changing asset class; the most important reason being high capital costs.

The GOI should consider looking at this in a broader perspective by introducing special financing facilities as well as Tax breaks for such investors.
