Sɪɢɴs Oғ Cʀᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ Tᴇᴇᴛʜ Sᴛᴀʀᴛ As Eᴀʀʟʏ As Aɢᴇ 3

Signs like:

-Tightly packed milk teeth
- Increased distance between the upper and lower front teeth
- Lower teeth, completely hidden by the upper teeth upon biting

Are the few red flags you can keep a watch for.

These signs indicate the jaws to be narrow and restricted. Smaller the jaw more crooked the teeth.

Apart from teeth, the child may struggle with:
- Recurrent tonsil/adenoid/ upper throat issues
- Restless sleep
- Eating issues
- Drooling ( excessive saliva)
- Cavities even without sugar in diet
- Night/ Day teeth grinding
- On the spectrum for ADHD

Promoting nasal breathing, strengthening the tongue and other face muscles improve jaw growth, correct sleep patterns and align teeth.

If you have are struggling with any of the above DM me.

Breathing is so easy, lets make sure our lil ones are doing that right!

Believe it or not, there’s actually a right way and a wrong way to rest your tongue. While this may sound silly or unimportant, the truth is that proper tongue posture can protect you from other whole-body concerns.

Proper tongue posture help
- straighten teeth
- jaws grow healthier
- improves breathing

Studies point out fussy or picky eating to be linked to personality traits to parental control to social influence to maternal eating patterns, or it could just be your kid being a kid.

Kids can be happy snacking on whole fruits and vegetables while some prefer the white carb-based rice and bread.

Airway Dentist Fact: Issues in their breathing patterns can cause them to be picky eaters too!

Few tricks to ace the food game:
1. Try the No Screen Rule: Get them into a habit of eating at the table only. No homework, no television, no video games. This could be a time where you could have fun things discussed, E.g. Contents of today’s dessert!
2. Let them be your Sous Chef: Try getting them to buy the vegetables via Amazon India or Bigbasket, adding their favorite to the cart. Children when made a part of the process tend to enjoy mealtimes more.
3. Mix and Match: This is especially for children below 5. Allow them to try a new fruit/ vegetable every week. Let them develop their own tastes.
4. No means No: If the child refuses to eat. Avoid forcing or fussing over it. Give them another option. The current dish could be presented differently a few days later. They may just prefer it then.
5. Role Play: Children love mimicking adults. The healthier you eat; your child will eat healthier.
6. Sweets are a yes: Don’t ban sweets completely, as it invites cravings and they may overindulge when given a chance.

How do you get your child to eat?

Babies have a reflex to bite down if there is something between their gums, and the tongue is not sticking out over the lower gum pads.

Oral restrictions limit your baby’s tongue movement.
When you feed them they may :
- Not be able to latch or
- May bite down on your ni**le!

That results in pain most of the time. However, all restrictions don't cause pain. But instead can surely result in
-Poor latch
-Poor seal
-Milk slipping out of the corner of the mouth or
-Gagging while feeding.

A baby with restrictions (tongue, lip, or cheek ties) will not be able to receive enough milk to feel full, as suckling itself is a task. This can lead to multiple feeds and a fussy baby.
Eagerly waiting to enjoy motherhood, this roadblock can be draining and overwhelming for mothers.

I encourage you to work with a lactation consultant (IBCLC) and a pediatric dentist (MDS) to help you in this beautiful journey.

Oral restrictions can have a detrimental effect on your baby’s growth, speech, posture, and even teeth! A pediatric dentist can help in the diagnosis, treatment as well as healing.

Breathing right and breathing safe is crucial.

Here are 5 things that connect nose breathing to your child’s health:

🦠 Breathing from the nose filters air and prevents the entry of germs, bacteria even viruses.

💨 Only when you breathe from the nose is Nitric Oxide[NO] produced which is a natural germ killer. NO helps in increasing the size of our airway (windpipe) improving the amount of oxygen reaching the lungs.

🦷 Breathing from the nose instead of the mouth, keeps the moist environment of a the mouth intact. This ensure no dry mouth(which could cause bad breath), less decay and healthier gums.

👅 Breathing from the nose encourages good facial development and straight teeth. A closed mouth improves the chances of the correct tongue posture, which helps the jaws to accommodate all the teeth!

😴 Nasal breathing reduces sleep disturbances, snoring and allows your child to get a good nights’ refreshing sleep!

Do you always breathe from your nose ?
Great!
