When we were kids, these Hindi pulp fiction novels used to hang outside STbus stand bookstalls like forbidden treasures.
Bright colors. Torn edges. Guns. Blood. Mysterious women. Angry heroes. Giant titles screaming from a distance.
Back then, just looking at those covers felt exciting.
And somehow, these novels are deeply connected to one particular memory from school.
We had this PT teacher in high school whose period we used to desperately wait for all day because we thought we’d finally get to go outside and play cricket or football.
But the moment he entered class, he would casually say:
“Study your other subjects.”
And then he would sit quietly at his desk reading these Hindi pulp fiction novels while all of us sat there frustrated, staring outside the classroom windows.
At that age, we found it annoying.
But years later, those covers stayed in memory.
That strange world of cheap paperbacks, dramatic artwork and over-the-top stories somehow became part of our collective childhood.
So I thought…
What if iconic films were reimagined as those old ₹18 railway-stall pulp paperbacks?
Starting with Utsav.
“एक नगरवधू… और बर्बाद होते साम्राज्य!”
Trying to recreate the feeling of discovering an old forgotten novel at a dusty bus stand bookstore while waiting to go home.
After the corona outbreak and lockdown, something changed in the way I see the world.
Earlier, I used to believe that certain things just don’t happen to us.
That extreme, unbelievable events belong somewhere else… not in our reality.
But after everything we’ve lived through, I don’t think like that anymore.
Now it feels like anything can happen.
Something unimaginable… something we never thought we’d witness.
Maybe even something as unreal as a giant creature rising from the sea.
This video comes from that thought.
What if something like that happened here?
What if it wasn’t somewhere far away… but right in Mumbai?
Just a fun “what if” idea—
but rooted in a feeling that the world has become a lot more unpredictable than we ever imagined.
Hope you enjoy the ride.
