“Malkhamb and architecture have more in common than people think.”

A few days ago, I had the privilege of being invited as the Chief Guest for the Annual Malkhamb Tournament and was humbled to be felicitated by Padmashree Uday Deshpandeji of the legendary Samarth Vyayam Mandir at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.

While addressing some of India’s finest young athletes, one thought stayed with me deeply:

Malkhamb is the art of finding balance under pressure.
Of holding form, discipline and grace while everything around you is in motion.

And in many ways, architecture feels no different.

Behind every effortless space lies immense coordination, pressure, timelines, decisions and discipline.

Yet the final experience must always feel calm, balanced and intentional.

Perhaps that is what connects sport and design so deeply — grace under pressure.

Truly grateful for this recognition and for the opportunity to interact with the next generation of athletes representing India’s future.
