The Hubble and Webb space telescopes were designed to complement each other. And they often work together as partners in space.

While Hubble can observe ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light, Webb was specifically built to observe infrared light, a wavelength we can’t see with our own eyes. Webb is able to do that with its giant mirror, reaching 21.7 feet (6.6 meters) tall. It also helps that Webb is in orbit a million miles (1.5 million kilometers) away from Earth.

Hubble, on the other hand, orbits just 340 miles above us with its nearly 8-foot mirror (2.4 meters).
