📢 Registration Open: Two-Week Orientation Programme on Indian Grammatical Tradition!

The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, invites applications for a Two-Week Orientation Programme on Indian Grammatical Tradition, scheduled from 31 August to 14 September 2026.
The programme offers an in-depth exploration of India's rich grammatical heritage, covering the foundations and evolution of grammatical traditions from Sanskrit, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Prakrit, Pali, and other Indian languages with discussions on texts such as the Kātantra/Kalāpa, Sarasvatīkaṇṭhābharaṇa, Navya Vyākaraṇa, Vākyapadīya, and Tolkāppiyam.

Renowned scholars will deliver lectures on classical grammatical texts and their relevance to contemporary linguistic research, language documentation, computational linguistics, and language education.

NTS-I of CIILs Three-Day Training-cum-Workshop on Testing & Evaluation and Item Writing in Hindi & Urdu Inaugurated at DIET, Wayanad

Strengthening Language Documentation: 15-Day Workshop on Car Nicobarese and Nancowry/Kamorta Languages Concludes at CIIL.

The Scheme for Protection and Preservation of Endangered Languages (SPPEL), Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, has successfully concluded a 15-day workshop dedicated to the documentation of Car Nicobarese and Nancowry languages. This initiative brought together language experts from the Nicobar Islands to CIIL, Mysuru, to provide invaluable native linguistic data. The academic staff of SPPEL worked diligently throughout the 15 days to collect, analyze, and preserve this vital linguistic data.

The workshop under the guidance of Prof. Basavaraja Kodagunti (Director, CIIL) was further enriched by the expertise of distinguished experts, Prof. Shailendra Mohan (Former Director, CIIL), Prof. Arun Ghosh (Former Professor of Bengali, University of Burdwan) and Dr. Pramod Kumar (Assistant Professor, IGNTU). They shared their insightful perspectives and feedback throughout the program.

In the concluding session the Director of CIIL expressed deep gratitude to the language experts for traveling from the Nicobar Islands to contribute to this project. He also commended the SPPEL resource persons for their unwavering dedication to data collection and reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to carrying this work forward, with concrete efforts planned for future fieldwork in the Nicobar Islands.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Sujoy Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge, SPPEL, who thanked all the participants, experts, and staff for their collaborative efforts in making this workshop a meaningful success.
