US-based technology behemoth Microsoft has agreed to set up its third campus in India. The new campus in Noida will be the second-largest among the three in terms of employee capacity, two of which are in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Microsoft MD Rajiv Kumar confirmed the news during a virtual meeting with Uttar Pradesh’s MSME & Export Promotion Minister Sidharth Nath Singh. The state will roll out the "red carpet" facility to Microsoft to make it easier for the company to do business, Singh said.

“The company has said that they want to move their North India campus to Greater Noida - Smart City. The next step will be a site inspection by the team both in Greater Noida and along the Yamuna Expressway followed by their proposal which the state government will examine," Singh told The Economic Times.

As mentioned, Microsoft currently has two campuses in India located in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Both these campuses have a capacity of 5,000 and 2,000 employees, respectively.

The third campus is likely to be set up near the Jewar International Airport along the Yamuna Expressway that connects Greater Noida with Agra.

Other companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, and Haier are also in various levels of discussions with the state government of bringing in investment in the Noida/Greater Noida regions.

The Noida authority is expected to unveil the 29.707km Noida-Greater Noida Metro link and open the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) underpass for public use by November-end. Preparations are underway to inaugurate three projects — an international airport at Jewar along the Yamuna Expressway, a 2.5km elevated road above Dadri Road and a 5.5km elevated road above the Shahdara drain — in November.

“We are trying to finish all remaining work at the NTPC underpass before November. And the 29.707km Noida-Greater Noida Metro link will also be ready for the public. Two elevated road projects will be the other mega projects on which we will start work this year,” Alok Tandon, chief executive officer of the Noida authority, said.

“We are hoping that the Prime Minister inaugurates the elevated roads and the Jewar airport, and opens the Noida-Greater Noida Metro link together at one event. We are working out the schedule to fix the date. Metro work is almost ready and formalities for Jewar airport are also almost finished,” Dr Mahesh Sharma, MP, Gautam Budh Nagar, said.

Noida-Greater Noida Metro link

The Aqua Line to connect Noida and Greater Noida through a 29.707km Metro link is expected to be opened to the public in November. The commissioner of Metro rail safety is conducting inspections to give safety clearances to make way for operations on this link.

NTPC underpass

The underpass at the busy traffic intersection near the NTPC in Sector 24-32 , which has been delayed by nearly two years, will be inaugurated in November. The authority had started work on June 30, 2015.

The underpass has been built at a cost of ₹55.55 crore. It is 640-metre-long and is at the intersection of sectors 24, 25A, 32 and 33A.

International airport, Jewar

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath assured farmers in a meeting held in Lucknow on September 19 that the work on this project will begin in November. “Since more than 70% of 5,926 farmers have agreed to give their land for the airport project, the state government will issue a notification to make way for land acquisition by next week,” Thakur Dhirendra Singh, MLA, Jewar, said.

The estimated budget for the project is ₹15,000- 20,000 crore and the airport is expected to be operational by 2022-23.

Elevated road above Shahdara drain

The Uttar Pradesh government’s Rajkiya Nirman Nigam is set to begin work on the 5.5km elevated road above the Shahdara drain. The objective behind this elevated road (that has an estimated budget of ₹550 crore) is to provide seamless connectivity to motorists who travel from east Delhi to the Noida Expressway.

Construction on the 2.5km elevated road above the snarl-ridden Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Road will begin with an aim to provide seamless connectivity to thousands of motorists. The stretch passes through Barola and Bhangel villages. In August 2012, the authority had conceived the idea of constructing an elevated road for the first time.

Jewar Airport: Yogi promises fair deal in land acquisition from farmers

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday promised justice to the local farmers who are unhappy with the money they are getting for the land being acquired by the state government for the Jewar International Airport.

Adityanath asked the district administration here to resolve the issue and submit a report on it within eight days, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh said.

The chief minister gave the directions after a discussion with the farmers during a visit to the Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida.

"I assure the farmers that they will get justice and appropriate compensation for their land. I also want to tell them not to get misled by the opposition, he said, according to a press release issued by the MLA.

The people who are opposing this on Friday are the same people who never wanted Jewar to get an airport," the chief minister said.

About 150 farmers from eight villages in Jewar area came to the university to meet Adityanath.

The ambitious project had reportedly hit a hurdle in June following stiff resistance from the residents of these villages, which fall under its phase 1.

Much of the conflict is over the categorisation of the area as urban or rural, which determines the amount the farmers get under the land acquisition law.

The farmers reportedly want to be paid four times the circle rate. The government wants them to take just double, according to an official.

The chief minister said once the airport is operational, it will change the region's landscape by generating employment and improve amenities for the local people.

Villagers from Dayanatpur, Ranhera, Rohi, Kishorpur, Banwaripur, Siwara, Ramner and Paarohi attended the meeting.

The UP government is to spend Rs 40 billion on land acquisition for the airport, which was scheduled to start operations in 2022-23.

About 1,441 hectares of land has been identified for the first phase of the airport project.

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry had in June said the process of land acquisition was expected to be completed in two months.The ministry expected that bids for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project would be invited by October and the foundation stone-laying ceremony held in December.

The state's civil aviation department would spend Rs 15 billion, while the Noida Development Authority would provide a matching amount.

The Greater Noida Authority and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) would spend Rs 5 billion each, according to the plan.
