At the CII Symposium on Technologies Enabling Waste to Worth Transformation, Mr. Varun Karad, Co-Founder, RED contributed to the session “Technologies Advancing Circular Solutions for a Greener Tomorrow” at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

The discussion focused on one of the most important questions in India’s circular economy journey: how to convert waste streams into valuable resources through solutions that are not only innovative but also commercially viable.

India has a significant opportunity to unlock value from organic waste, agricultural residues, municipal solid waste and industrial by-products. These resources can form the foundation for clean energy, bio-CNG, compost, recovered materials, and decentralized circular value chains.

However, the real challenge lies in moving beyond pilots.

For waste-to-resource technologies to scale, the sector needs reliable feedstock systems, indigenous and cost-effective technologies, strong project economics, long-term offtake certainty, policy support and investor confidence.

The future of India’s circular economy will be shaped by solutions that can consistently convert waste into value at scale.

At the India–Kenya Roundtable on Bioenergy hosted by CII, Mr. Varun Karad, Co-Founder & CEO, RED, led an engaging dialogue on the evolution of India’s bioenergy ecosystem and the opportunities ahead for cross-border collaboration.

A key part of the discussion focused on how indigenisation of critical products and systems has played an important role in reducing the production cost of CBG in India. From technology localisation to domestic manufacturing and supply chain development, India is now moving towards a more cost-efficient and scalable CBG ecosystem.

The roundtable also created a meaningful platform to explore India–Kenya cooperation in biodigesters, compressed biogas, technology partnerships, investment linkages and private sector engagement.

Mr. Karad also highlighted the struggles faced by the sector over the years, including feedstock aggregation, project ex*****on, financing, policy clarity and market development. With recent policy developments and growing institutional focus, the CBG sector is now positioned for exponential growth.

A new Waste-to-CBG project takes shape in Salem.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming Waste-to-CBG Plant at Salem, Tamil Nadu, marks the start of ex*****on for another important project being developed by RED for Refex Renewables.

What begins today as a prepared site will evolve into a facility that converts waste into clean, compressed biogas, supporting sustainable urban waste management and renewable fuel generation.

For our teams, this milestone is not just about the start of construction. It is about translating planning, engineering, and project coordination into on-the-ground action.

Work begins at Coimbatore.

RED is proud to mark the ground-breaking ceremony for the upcoming Waste-to-CBG project at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, being developed for Refex Renewables.

This milestone marks the beginning of on-ground ex*****on and another step towards building scalable CBG infrastructure in India.
