Common uses

Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) – redness, discharge, and irritation caused by bacteria.

Corneal ulcers – bacterial infections or ulcers on the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye).

Other superficial bacterial eye infections as prescribed by an eye doctor.

Not effective for
Viral eye infections (such as most cases of viral conjunctivitis)
Allergic eye irritation
Fungal eye infections

Common side effects

Mild burning or stinging after putting in the drops
Eye redness or irritation
Itching
Feeling like something is in the eye
Temporary unpleasant taste in the mouth
Occasionally, white deposits/crystals on the eye surface during treatment for corneal ulcers
