Why Start Up Entrepreneurs and Businesses should avoid taking "String" funds
"String Funds" are those funds which come with unspoken, undocumented but serious strings attached to it. Mostly damaging to the business. Desperate owners/entrepreneurs typically fall for these funds. Start Ups and Businesses dance to the tune of those who hold these strings, at a later stage. So be careful who you take money from, who you onboard as equity or debt provider for your business.

Founder of Incubate Partners worked closely with numerous global and local businesses, offering advisory and mentoring support. What we realised, during this period of over 34 years, we are trying to share some insights here.

Funding option shall be chosen carefully
If you know Asset Liability Mismatch, you would understand this well. Dont infuse long term funds in your business to meet short term liability. Similarly, never ever infuse short tenure funds to meet long term liability. Equity is a long term liability. Offer it wisely. Structure your short term and long term debts carefully. Each one has "string" attached to it.

Funding Partner shall be chosen carefully
You dont just infuse funds, you onboard funding partner. They are expected to add positive value to your business. You need to understand the mentality and attitude of your funding partner, either debt or equity, before you onboard them. Especially if you are giving them significant stake and if they are in controlling situation. Every relationship is built over a period of time, but if the intentions are not honest, relationships fall, so does the business.

It makes sense to take professional mentoring help, to manage your capital budgeting, funding strategy, stakeholders management, risk management and exits.

First Sunday, Technovators and CT Bora College Shirur, Pune, are organising one day symposium "IICES 2026 - Paving way for sustainable growth", on 3rd January, 2026. Innovation, Interaction, Collaboration, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Growth (IICES) is the focus. Incubate Partners is mentoring partner for this and Vishwa Panthastha, a magazine for NRIs is bringing special edition of January issue for this symposium. Around 200 delegates, start-up entrepreneurs, investors, teachers, students, researchers, industrialists, businessmen, academicians, incubation centers, are expected to attend this symposium and around 1000 visitors are expected to visit the exhibition which will be simultaneously held in the college. This is a semi urban/industrial cluster or rural area and our objective is to reach this segment proactively and support them. (For very select delegates/families, we are also planning farm stay on 3rd night and also visit Pabal Vidnyan Ashram on 4th Jan, before returning to Pune)
