** Indias massive wealth gap, per capita decline, and the implications of massive subsidies and brain drain **.

**Have Indians truly become wealthier in the last 10 years?** While it's true that India has created over **300 billionaires** and is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy, the per capita wealth data paints a grim picture. In 2014, India ranked **126th** globally in per capita income, but by 2024, we’ve slipped further to **136th**. This decline reflects growing income inequality.

The fact that **80 crore people** (nearly 60% of the population) still rely on free rations, free electricity, and government handouts raises an important question: what is the true value of this economic growth when millions remain in poverty? These massive subsidies, handed out by all political parties to maintain power, are depleting the nation’s financial resources.

This doesn't present a promising picture globally and comes at the expense of much-needed investments in **infrastructure, healthcare, and education**. While the rich get richer, **lakhs of talented students** are leaving India for better education and career opportunities abroad, never returning. **Thousands of HNIs (High Net Worth Individuals)** are also leaving the country permanently, taking their wealth with them. As the exodus continues, it’s crucial to ask: where is India heading as a nation?

Adding to the problem are the so-called **wealth creators**—recent high-profile startups like **OLA, PayTM, Byju's, BharatPay, Patanjal etc.i**, and many others. These businesses offer a stark warning. Most lack genuine innovation and have been launched under the guise of nationalism, with the clear intent of making their owners rich quickly. They misuse terms like “Swadesh” and “wealth creators” to deceive retail investors, ultimately creating wealth for themselves at the expense of others.
