5th December is celebrated as World Soil Day.December 2013,UN General Assembly at 68th session declared 5 December as World Soil Day.1st World Soil Day was celebrated on 5th December 2014.
The theme of this year is "STOP SOIL EROSION SAVE OUR FUTURE" which is envisaged to raise awareness on the importance of sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being.It also highlight the growing problem due to population expansion.It is necessary to take a step to reduce the erosion of soil, to maintain fertility so that food safety can be ensured.

World Soil Day (WSD) is held annually on 5 December as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources.
