Andaman Diaries
Time to stay apart, but connected. As we all are in it together and doing our bit by staying inside our houses, The Picture Bench thought of sharing a series of pictures of Amazing Andamans.

Point 1: Cellular Jail

"ने मजसी ने परत मातृभूमीला सागरा, प्राण तळमळला..."- सावरकर

The name, "cellular jail" is derived from the solitary cells which prevented any prisoner from communicating with any other. Also, the spokes were so designed such that the face of a cell in a spoke saw the back of cells in another spoke. This way, communication between prisoners was impossible. The jail has 696 cells divided into 7 different wings each connected to a tower in the middle.

The corridor may not be crowded now but each one of its bricks has witnessed sacrifices, brutality... We move forward but this very place tells us the history of immense torture and our fight for freedom.
You can still feel "इन्कलाब जिंदाबाद" everywhere in this place. Here time did not have permission to move forward.. this is "काला पानी" most brutal part of India's freedom fighting.
