We think that modern psychology has it all figured out but in reality despite the vast number of literature and research west has produced it has only managed to touch the surface. If we compare what has been achieved to what remains unexplored the achievement is very humble.

What started as the study of soul, was reduced to mind - a concept Western psychology itself still struggles to clearly define. Then later consciousness was questioned when Freud and Adler explored the unconscious fields. The behaviourists define it as the study of behaviour which was again refuted by contemporary psychologist.

The very core of psychology - soul and the mind without which the subject has no legs to stand on has been casually omitted by western psychologists. Why? Because soul and mind could not be studied through the limited methodology of modern science.

When we approach therapy with the limited lens of behaviourism, people may put in effort yet see limited results: symptoms managed but unresolved, repeating emotional cycles, frustration, and the sense of hitting the same wall again and again.

This is where Indian Darśan offers something profound. It explored self, mind, body, consciousness, suffering, tendencies, and liberation as one integrated whole—and it offered methods, not just theories.

Through Sāṅkhya, Yoga, Vedānta, and other traditions, it developed tools for observation, discipline, emotional balance, inner clarity, and self-realisation.

Anxiety isn’t just “in your head.” 🧠

It’s a full-body experience. Sometimes it looks like a racing heart before a meeting, and other times it’s that unexplained “knotted” feeling in your stomach.

Recognizing these physical cues is the first step toward managing them. When we understand how our bodies react, we can start to meet those symptoms with compassion instead of frustration.

The difference in foundation beings from the different philosophies followed in the west and in India. Philosophy in India is known as ‘Darśan’, which means ‘insight’, ‘intuition’ and ‘vision’.

Unlike western psychology that only believes in observable means, Indian psychology believes in having a total vision of life and universe, based on personal experience, and not on a limited plane of modern methodology.

Many seem to claim that Western Psychology has evolved from being the scientific study of soul to the study of mind and then behaviour. But the journey rather seems more stagnating.

Indian Psychology/Darśan on the other hand has always believed the soul to be the foundation of understanding human nature and psyche and offer systematic literature and practices for the same.

Introducing and practicing Indian psychology has become imperative for gaining a thorough understanding of the human psyche. By embracing the insights and practices of Indian psychology, we can broaden our understanding of human nature beyond the limitations of Western approaches and access a more holistic perspective.
