Mount Kailash, dubbed as the residence of Lord Shiva and a holy side for Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, will now be accessible for devotees from the Indian Territory. Officials stated that Border Roads Organization (BRO) has already started to cut the roads from KMVN Huts in Nabhidhang in Pithoragarh district to Lipulekh pass on the India-China border. This will be completed by September this year.

“We have started the work of cutting the road from KMVN Huts to Lipulekh Pass in Nabhidhang, about six and a half kilometres long.” After the completion of the road, ‘Kailash View Point’ will be ready along the road,” said the Chief Engineer of BRO’s Diamond Project, Vimal Goswami. The Indian government has assigned Hirak Project to create “Kailash View Point.” According to Mr Goswami, a lot of road-cutting work has been accomplished, and if the weather is kind, it will be finished by September.

Earlier the yatra was organized via two routes, Lipulekh Pass (Uttrakhand) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim) and devotees had to go through the Chinese territory since then due to the Covid pandemic, the Kailash-Mansarovar yatra across both courses was postponed and has not yet begun again. Such an extended delay has helped the Indian government’s efforts to create an alternative way for pilgrims to reach Mount Kailash.

This new route will ensure devotees will not have to go through the various conditions enforced by the Chinese authorities, an elderly person may only go on the yatra if he/she has passed all medical tests and obtained NOC from his/her doctor or is accompanied by a family member of blood relation only. The “Kailash View Point” will open doors for devotees to visit the holy site from within the Indian borders.
