A new malware is spreading through Facebook Messenger across the world. The Tokyo-based cybersecurity firm has warned the Facebook users to beware of a cryptocurrency-mining bot named, “Digmine”.

The malware which first attacked South Korea has spread through Vietnam, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Philippines, Thailand, and Venezuela. Given the global reach of Facebook Messenger, Digmine is likely to reach rest of the countries soon. The malware affects only the Facebook Messenger’s desktop and web versions.

The malware is basically a cryptocurrency-mining bot, it is coded in Autolt. Digmine sends the video file to the would-be victims. What looks like a video is actually an Autolt executable script, stays on the victim’s computer as for as long as possible. The botnet is pushed from the command-and-control (C&C) server, which can be updated remotely.
