Hooghly district… the melting pot of culture, religious faith and traditions! The only Buddhist temple in the district is situated at Deulpara of Tarakeswar. This temple was consecrated in the year 1985 by Dalai Lama. Known for its statue of Lord Buddha and beautiful garden, Buddha Temple of Deulpara resonates the spirit of peace and truth!

Based on the advantageous factors, such as rich natural resources, availability of manpower and strategic geographical location, Hooghly district has got its praiseworthy position in terms of industrial development. The traditional industrial base of the region, chiefly supported by jute has undergone a rapid diversification. Today, Micro and Small Scale Enterprises (MSSE) play a significant role in the economy of the Hooghly district. As per a study by Directorate of Industries, there was a total of 3040 MSSEs in the district in 2011. Presumably, the number has grown manifold by today. There is a need to revamp this MSSE sector for a better prospect of the district.

Hooghly Women’s College, the pioneer in imparting education for women has got its pride in position not because it’s the first women college in the district! It has a strong heritage of developing students who left their marks in all spheres of life! The initiation of the journey of this college dates back to the year 1943 though the college got the affiliation in the year 1948. The college has given voices to innumerable women through proper education.
