Behind the Mark — UDS Case Study

We didn't just design a logo. We bottled forty-five years into a badge.

The story of Sagar's Kitchen doesn't begin in a hotel. It begins in one of the oldest corners of Siliguri — a small tea and samosa shop where a grandfather built something rare: a place people returned to not out of habit, but out of belonging. His three sons, Ramesh, Sunil, and Anil, carried that spirit forward. Tea became tiffin. Tiffin became full meals. A corner stall became one of Siliguri's most cherished vegetarian restaurants. Generations of families grew up across Sagar's tables.
When Sagar's Kitchen — the in-house restaurant at The Four Vedas Hotel & Resort, Siliguri — approached us for their logo, this was the weight we were carrying. Not just a brief. A legacy.

The challenge: how do you honour forty-five years of community without making it feel like a museum piece?
At UDS, we don't start with design — we start with understanding.
The idea: a classic circular badge. Earned, not assigned. "SAGAR'S" crowns the top, "KITCHEN" anchors the base — the name literally embracing its own identity.
The symbol: spoon, fork, knife in deep forest green. The universal language of the table.

The masterstroke: a rolling pin stretched into a banner carrying EST. 1986 — a kitchen tool transformed into a declaration of legacy. Form and meaning, unified.
The palette: deep maroon for warmth and tradition. Forest green for the hills that frame Siliguri's horizon. Black to anchor both — the quiet confidence that only comes with age.
Strong identities don't over-explain. They resonate first, reveal later.
