U.S. Launches Fresh Airstrikes Near Iran’s Bandar Abbas Amid Gulf Tensions

Washington Targets Iranian Drone Facility Near Strait of Hormuz

Srinagar, May 28: The United States has announced fresh military action near Iran’s strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, escalating already heightened tensions in the Gulf region amid ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

According to reports by Reuters, citing a U.S. official, American forces carried out targeted airstrikes on what was described as an Iranian military facility allegedly posing a threat to U.S. forces and commercial shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

The operation reportedly focused on a drone-control installation located near Bandar Abbas, a key Iranian naval and trade hub overlooking one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.

Reuters further reported that U.S. forces intercepted and destroyed several Iranian drones operating in the area during the military operation.

American officials characterized the strikes as “defensive measures” aimed at safeguarding maritime security and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of international commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran, however, strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a violation of the fragile ceasefire efforts currently under discussion between the two sides. Iranian officials warned that the latest escalation could further destabilize the region at a time when diplomatic negotiations remain underway.

The Strait of Hormuz continues to remain a focal point of geopolitical tensions, with nearly a fifth of the world’s oil supply passing through the narrow waterway. The latest developments have intensified concerns over regional stability, global energy security, and the future of U.S.–Iran relations.

According to an official statement, police said the identity of the accused was withheld during the initial phase of the probe to ensure that crucial legal and forensic formalities were not compromised and the integrity of the investigation remained intact.

The accused has been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Galwanpora Sebdan in Budgam district.

Police stated that the investigation conducted so far has found no involvement of any other individual in the commission of the crime.

Appealing for calm and communal harmony, Budgam Police urged the public not to take the law into their own hands or circulate rumours, speculative narratives or unverified allegations related to the case.

The statement further warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found spreading misinformation or attempting to disrupt public order.

Police also called upon media organisations and social media users to exercise responsibility and restraint while reporting or commenting on the matter, stating that the circulation of misleading or unverified information could create unnecessary panic and adversely affect law and order.
