उत्तर प्रदेश के बाराबंकी में टोल प्लाजा पर वकील की पिटाई के बाद शुरू हुए बवाल के बाद राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग प्राधिकरण (NHAI) ने बड़ा कदम उठाया है। तीन दिनों से लगातार चल रहे आक्रोशित वकीलों के हंगामे को देखते हुए NHAI ने टोल वसूलने वाली एजेंसी ‘मेसर्स स्काईलार्क इंफ्रा इंजीनियरिंग प्राइवेट लिमिटेड’ का अनुबंध खत्म कर दिया है। इधर, वकीलों ने एसपी ऑफिस का घेराव कर पुलिस अधीक्षक से आरोपी टोल कर्मियों पर गैंगस्टर और रासुका के तहत कार्रवाई की मांग की है।

इस मामले में पुलिस टोल मैनेजर सहित 5 लोगों को जेल भेज चुकी है।लखनऊ-सुल्तानपुर (NH-731) के बारा टोल प्लाजा पर बीते बुधवार को हुए वकील रत्नेश शुक्ला की पिटाई ने बड़ा रूप ले लिया। घटना के तीसरे दिन शुक्रवार को भी वकीलों ने जोरदार प्रदर्शन किया। बार कौंसिल ऑफ उत्तर प्रदेश के चुनाव और वोटिंग होने के चलते नाराजगी और भड़क गई।

The bench, comprising Justices Rajeev Ranjan Prasad and Sourendra Pandey, set aside an initial penalty of Rs. 1,05,000—nearly 84% of the vehicle's Rs. 1,25,123 insured value—imposed by the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Gopalganj Sadar. This decision in Alok Pandey v. State of Bihar (CWJC No. 15636 of 2025) underscores the principle of proportionality in penalties, particularly when the offense involves a modest quantity of liquor and no prior criminal history. The case highlights ongoing tensions between Bihar's zero-tolerance excise regime and judicial oversight ensuring fair treatment for vehicle owners.
