IHCHR Launches Specialized Training on Energy Sustainability & Environmental Rights

The IHCHR inaugurated a five-day specialized training course entitled "Energy Sustainability, Environment, Occupational Safety, and Climate" at its National Headquarters. The programme was organized by the IHCHR Head Office, represented by the Quality Management (ISO) Unit, in cooperation with the Dissemination and Education Department, as part of its annual training plan aimed at strengthening staff capacities and enhancing institutional awareness of environmental human rights.

The programme covers a number of key thematic areas, including the latest concepts and practices related to energy sustainability, environmental protection, climate change, and their relationship with occupational and environmental safety. It also examines risk management, risk assessment matrices, and on-site auditing mechanisms in the fields of energy, environment, and safety.

The training sessions provided a comprehensive overview of the objectives of the National Policy for Energy Support and Emissions Reduction, measures to control emission sources particularly emissions generated by air-conditioning systems, as well as the phenomenon of greenhouse gases and their direct impact on the environment and climate.

The course forms part of a broader series of specialized training programmes developed by the Quality Management Unit, comprising workshops, seminars, and training courses that will be extended to all IHCHR offices across Iraq's governorates. The initiative reflects the Commission's institutional vision to strengthen staff capacities, promote knowledge transfer, and institutionalize best practices in the fields of energy sustainability, environmental protection, and climate action. It further contributes to supporting national efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reduce emissions, enhance institutional performance, and foster a culture of sustainability across public institutions.

IHCHR Holds Workshop on Leveraging Artificial Intelligence in Karbala

The IHCHR-Karbala Office, in cooperation with the Programmers Syndicate, organized a specialized workshop entitled "Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Enhance the Efficiency of Public Sector Employees". The event brought together a distinguished group of specialists, members of the Syndicate, and employees from various government institutions across the governorate.

The workshop explored practical approaches to integrating artificial intelligence tools into the public administration environment to automate routine tasks, accelerate administrative procedures, and support evidence-based decision-making through data analysis. These measures aim to reduce bureaucracy and enhance the quality of public services delivered to citizens.

Mr. Majid Al-Masoudi, Director of the IHCHR Office in Karbala, emphasized that this collaboration seeks to keep pace with digital transformation and strengthen institutional performance in ways that contribute to greater transparency and the protection of individuals' rights.

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, including the expansion of similar capacity-building programmes to strengthen the skills of public sector personnel across various state institutions. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to the participants in recognition of their attendance and engagement.

IHCHR Holds Awareness Workshop at Salahalddin Drug Rehabilitation Centre

The IHCHR –Salahalddin Office organized a specialized awareness workshop for beneficiaries of the Salahalddin Drug and Psychotropic Substance Rehabilitation Centre, in cooperation with the Human Rights Division at the Office of the Director General of Health in the governorate, the Mental Health Unit of the Public Health Department, and the Directorate of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in Salahalddin .

The workshop was delivered by IHCHR Legal Adviser, Israa Farhan, Marwan Ahmed of the Mental Health Unit, and Dr. Huda Abd, Head of the Human Rights and Women's Affairs Unit at the Health Directorate. The workshop covered the concept of the right to life and its fundamental characteristics from the perspective of international law and the Iraqi Constitution, su***de from the perspective of Islamic Sharia, clinical assessment and monitoring of cases, as well as the identification of early su***de warning signs, safety planning mechanisms, and immediate intervention.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the IHCHR Office delivered a brief presentation on the nature of the Commission's work, its mandated functions and responsibilities, and its objectives as set out in the amended Law No. 53 of 2008.

IHCHR Receives UNHCR Delegation

The IHCHR- Najaf Office received UNHCR delegation to facilitate a session with a group of Afghan families and individuals residing in Iraq.

The session sought to assess the circumstances that led Afghan families and individuals to seek asylum in Iraq, while ensuring access to legal , financial assistance and support, as well as facilitating voluntary return procedures.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and coordination with government institutions, community organizations, and international partners in promoting and protecting human rights in Iraq.
