Accuracy in translation

The novelist tries to pull the reader and take him to another world, giving him the moments of his beautiful novel. This depends on several things, including: the selection of accurate vocabulary, the sequence of events, and clarity in describing the personalities of the novel. After the effort of the novelist, a translator comes and wastes that effort because of poor expression and the use of in appropriate vocabulary. It may be appropriate but not as strong as the words of the original text. Peter Newmark mentioned that many valuable novels have fallen victim to bad translations. The translator may not feel the weakness of his translation or the translation of another translator because English is not his mother tongue, and he thus lacks absolute linguistic sense.

الدِّقَّةُ فِي التَّرْجَمَةِ

يحاول الروائي شدّ القارئ ونقله إلى عالم آخر ومنحه متعة لحظات روايته الجميلة. ويعتمد ذلك على عدّة أمور منها: اختيار المفردات الدقيقة وتسلسل الأحداث والوضوح في وصف أحوال شخصيات الرواية. وبعد جهد الروائي يأتي مترجم فيضيّع ذلك الجهد بسبب ضعف التعبير واستعمال مفردات غير مناسبة — وقد تكون مناسبة لكنها ليست بقوة كلمات النص الأصلي. وقد ذكر Peter Newmark أن الكثير من الروايات القيّمة راحت ضحية ترجمات سيّئة. وقد لا يشعر المترجم بضعف ترجمته أو ترجمة مترجم آخر لأنّ الإنكليزية ليست لغته الأُم، وهو بذلك يفتقر إلى الحس اللغوي المطلق.
