One of the Wineries that I have followed for a long time is La Calcinara in Candia in the Conero Area.
They grow Montepulciano of course and makes some of the most interesting Conero DOCG with a lighter hand than most of their colleagues.
The wine that stands out for me is the Terra Calcinara that has 10-15 % of Sangiovese blended with the Montepulciano.
A leap of quality seems obvious from the 2020 vintage that now is on sale due to a small (?) technical difference. I will not go deeper into the subject…it’s better to pay a visit and Paolo or Eleonora will be happy to explain.
They also make a beautiful white wine with 90% Verdicchio and 10% Chardonnay.
2023 was a difficult vintage but this area coped better than neighboring Castelli di Jesi and Matelica that both lost enormous volumes.
Even if I prefer Verdicchio without malolactic fermentation I’m happily making an exception for this.
Most of all, you get extremely well treated here so I recommend a visit.
Cheers
