Verbs МОЧЬ and УМЕТЬ are translated into English by the verb CAN.
BUT in Russian there is a significant difference between these verbs. Let’s find it out, shall we?

✔️ УМЕТЬ is used when you talk about acquired skills, something you have studied and know how to do:
✏️ Я умею водить машину.
I can drive.

✏️ Ты умеешь плавать?
Can you swim?

✏️ Она не умеет готовить.
She can’t cook.

✏️ Мой ребёнок ещё не умеет говорить.
My kid can’t speak yet.

✔️МОЧЬ indicates ability or inability to make an action depending on circumstances or a situation:
- Давай увидимся завтра в 5?
- Нет, извини, не могу. Я занят.
- Let’s meet at 5?
- Sorry, I can’t make it. I’m busy.

✏️ Как ты можешь это есть? Я не понимаю.
How can you manage to eat it? I can’t understand.

✏️ Я не могу спать ночью. Жарко.
I’m not able to sleep at night. It’s too hot.

✏️ Она не может ответить на звонок. У неё важная встреча.
She can’t answer the call right now. She’s got an important meeting.

Guys, let’s have a look at the lovely pronoun ВЕСЬ. It’s translated as ALL (or as WHOLE) and it’s used only together with a noun or a personal pronoun.
✔️The pronoun ВЕСЬ has masculine, feminine and neuter forms in the singular and also a plural form (the same for aaaaaall genders):
✏️ВЕСЬ год
✏️ВЕСЬ день
✏️ВСЯ страна
✏️ВСЯ неделя
✏️ВСЁ время
✏️ВСЁ воскресенье
✏️ВСЕ деньги
✏️ВСЕ люди
‼️Don’t mix up ВЕСЬ and ВСЕ and ВСЁ (check the previous post out) which are always used without a noun!
✏️ВСЕ сегодня отдыхают.
Everybody is off today.
✏️Она ВСЁ знает.
She knows everything.
‼️BUT:
✏️Он ВСЁ время думает о работе.
He thinks about work all the time.
✏️ВСЕ мои друзья здесь.
All my friends are here.

‼️There are two words you are interested in the difference between: ВЕСЬ and ЦЕЛЫЙ.
Basically, they are like ALL and WHOLE in English:
✔️ВЕСЬ is more like ALL, meaning all of the parts the entire thing consists of: from first to last, from beginning to end. BUT it’s never used with СЕКУНДА, МИНУТА, ЧАС:
✏️ВЕСЬ понедельник я была дома.
I spent all Monday at home.
✏️Мы отдыхали всё лето.
We have been chilling all summer.
✔️ЦЕЛЫЙ is more like WHOLE meaning the entire thing altogether as a whole. BUT it’s never used with days of the week, months and the word ВРЕМЯ:
✏️Целый мир - the whole world
✔️ЦЕЛЫЙ as “not broken”:
✏️Чашка упала на пол, но осталась ЦЕЛОЙ:
The cup fell down on the floor but did not break (remained whole).

✔️When you don’t need to emphasize these nuances, they are interchangeable:
✏️ВЕСЬ день идёт дождь = ЦЕЛЫЙ день идёт дождь.
It’s been raining the whole day long.

✔️ВЕСЬ is more emotionally neutral than ЦЕЛЫЙ.

One of the common mistakes of all students is confusing the pronouns ВСЁ and ВСЕ. Are you sure you use them correctly? Let’s see.

✔️The pronoun ВСЕ (meaning “everybody”) answers the question КТО?
✏️Все здесь. - Everybody is here.
✔️The pronoun ВСЕ is plural hence the verb referring to it must also be in plural (ОНИ):
✏️Все это знают. - Everybody knows that.
✏️Все тебя помнят. - Everybody remembers you.

✔️The pronoun ВСЁ (meaning “everything”) answers the question ЧТО?
✏️Всё в порядке! - Everything is all right!
✏️Спасибо за всё! - Thank you for everything!
✔️The pronoun ВСЁ is neuter singular. If the pronoun ВСЁ has the function of the subject in the sentence, the verb takes the singular form (ОНО):
✏️Всё работает. - Everything works.
✏️Всё будет хорошо. - Everything will be ok.
✏️Раньше всё было не так, как сейчас. - Everything used to be different, not like it is today.

✏️Все всё знают и все всё понимают. - Everybody knows everything and everybody understands everything.

But sooner or later, you’re gonna have to learn how to tell the date in Russian. No doubts.

❓Какое сегодня число?
What’s the date (today)?
✔️Сегодня двадцатое января.
Today is January 20th.
‼️ Pay attention to how to put the name of the month into the GENITIVE CASE correctly:
✏️январь -> январЯ
✏️май -> маЯ

In Russian we use the word “number” - ЧИСЛО instead of the word “date”.
“ЧИСЛО“ is a neuter noun, hence the ORDINAL number in the answer “какое сегодня число?” has a neuter singular ending:
✏️ПервОЕ февраля
✏️СемнадцатОЕ июня

To describe when an event happened or will happen, you need to put the ORDINAL number in the NEUTER form of the GENITIVE case (- ending -ого/-его):
✔️Когда у тебя день рождения?
When is your birthday?
✏️ВторОГО февраля.
✏️Двадцать четвертОГО октября.
‼️Pay attention to the absence of a preposition in the Russian constitution!
‼️Когда? Какого числа? - 19-ого августа.

✔️To sum up:
Сегодня + ordinal number neuter singular + the genitive for month.
✏️Сегодня двадцатОЕ январЯ.

✔️When it comes to the Russian date format, you’ve got a couple options:
