Starting July 5, 2026, don't miss FLAVIO FAVELLI. 500, a new project by Flavio Favelli and curated by Cristina Costanzo, at Gibellina, Capital of Contemporary Art 2026.

The project by Flavio Favelli, one of the leading figures in the contemporary Italian art scene, unfolds in two phases. The residency begins with a train journey around the perimeter of the island, documented in an artist’s book that intertwines autobiography, collective memory, and visual imagery. Subsequently, Favelli will create two large-scale murals in the heart of Gibellina Nuova, dedicated to the theme of banknotes (the 500,000-lire note and the 500-euro note): images of power and symbolic value that become tools for reflecting on economic and social history and, at the same time, “images as complex as they are popular,” capable of engaging with public space and the local community.

From July 3, 2026, the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP) will present Casa María Lionza, a site-specific installation by Venezuelan artist Sol Calero.

Curated by Adriano Pedrosa, Artistic Director of MASP, and Laura Cosendey, Assistant Curator, the pavilion has been conceived as a dynamic space that forms an integral part of the museum’s cultural program for the Free Span.
Marking Calero’s first presentation in Brazil, Casa María Lionza brings together façades, benches, windows, doors, murals, mosaics, and furniture to create an immersive environment that reflects on identity, belonging, and the construction of Latin American cultural imaginaries.

Inspired by the architecture of Lina Bo Bardi and by Anna Mariani’s photographic studies of Brazilian façades, the pavilion is envisioned as a place of encounter and coexistence. Its title refers to María Lionza, a central figure in Venezuelan spirituality whose syncretic character embodies Indigenous, African, and Catholic traditions.
Complementing the installation, Sol Calero will lead a mosaic workshop on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with one of the mediums central to her artistic practice.
