Carlo Scarpa designed every element, including joints and fittings.

He often modified details during construction and discussed solutions on site with builders and artisans.

He was not a licensed architect: Carlo Scarpa never earned a formal architecture degree. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice and was registered as a decorator. Each project required the signature of a licensed architect. This condition shaped his working method and his independence from academic practice.

His burial followed his own design At the Brion Cemetery in San Vito d’Altivole – Scarpa was buried outside the main enclosure, as he had requested.
