IMPRINTING IN PALESTINE

In the acrid smell
of burnt flesh
breathed in by force
from my mother,
my first perfume
of the outside world.

In the desperate screams
of my brothers and sisters
for the whistling of grenades,
the First Register of Sounds
of my family.

At 14 years old
I pray
Alone
to the blow of the wind
of the Great Esplanade.

A fistful of dust
in my hands
I hurl it into the air and
I look at it
in its slow
crumbling and recompact
on the ground.

Tears
and blood
of my family
to fertilize the valley.
