Geroge Monbiot, giornalista di The Guardian, afferma che l'unico modo per salvare la vita dei nostri mari è smettere di mangiare pesce.
Nel mare, la vita sta crollando ancora più velocemente che a terra. La causa principale non è la plastica, l'inquinamento, la disgregazione del clima o l'acidificazione dell'oceano. E' la pesca. Perché la pesca commerciale è il fattore più importante, questo è quello di cui parliamo meno.
Enormi navi provenienti da nazioni ricche assorbono il pesce che circonda le nazioni povere, privando centinaia di milioni della loro principale fonte di proteine, mentre spazzano via squali, tonni, tartarughe, albatros, delfini e gran parte del resto della vita di i mari. L'allevamento ittico costiero ha un impatto ancora maggiore, poiché i pesci e i gamberetti sono spesso nutriti con interi ecosistemi marini: i pescherecci indiscriminati dragano tutto e lo trasformano in farina di pesce.

In the sea, life is falling even faster than on land. The main cause is not plastic, pollution, climate change or ocean acidification. It's fishing. Because commercial fishing is the most important factor, this is the one we are talking about the least.
Huge ships from rich nations absorb the fish surrounding poor nations, depriving hundreds of millions of their main source of protein, while wiping out sharks, tuna, turtles, albatrosses, dolphins and much of the rest of life on the seas. Coastal fish farming has an even greater impact, as fish and shrimp are often fed with whole marine ecosystems: indiscriminate fishing boats dredge everything and turn it into fish meal.
