Mio fratello GC credeva nella vita oltre la morte. Ho provato ad abbracciare la sua idea, immaginando il canto d’angeli che lo ha accolto alla fine del viaggio. Quel canto è divenuto “GC Mirage (The Loss of Memories)”.

Cosa resta quando una persona amata se ne va? Svaniscono i ricordi condivisi, certo, la parte di noi che apparteneva a una storia comune diviene polvere impigliata nei capelli del tempo. Chi piange, piange sempre e solo per se stesso, amo però pensare che ci sia qualcosa oltre il dolore, forse persino un dono: quando una persona ci lascia non appartiene più a un solo luogo, non è più distante, diventa parte di ciò che ci circonda; questo ci consente di restargli accanto.

My brother GC believed in life after death. Upon his passing, as if to walk beside him, I tried to embrace his vision, imagining a song of angels, rising as he crossed into heaven's light. That song became “GC Mirage”.

What are we left with, when a dear one leaves us? Shared memories fade, of course. The part of us that once belonged to that common story turns to dust, and tangles in the hair of time. I believe that whoever weeps, weeps for nobody but themselves, yet I like to think there must be something beyond pain, perhaps even a gift: once a person is gone, they’re no longer in one place, no longer truly away from us: they become everywhere, thus always by our side.

“GC Mirage” is a piano piece that blends classical and gospel music, capturing the dual loss of a brother and the inevitable fading of shared memories.
