Traditional coaxial cables are heavy, expensive, and already at short distances you will experience signal loss. Cables longer than 100 meters quickly become unpractical due to the high RF attenuation.

Fiber cables, by contrast, can reliably span 10 kilometers or more without significant loss. Plus, they are lighter, easier to install, and more flexible. This makes RFoF ideal for modern broadcast, live events, and corporate installations where reliability and scalability are essential.

And just to top it off, RFoF optimises overall capital expenditure (CAPEX) through shared resources.

Zeigermann_Audio took part in a hands-on workshop on hidden microphone techniques at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt, Germany.

The primary focus was on practical work on set and the question of how to hide lav mics cleanly and unobtrusively, which solutions work for different costumes and shooting situations, and how to avoid typical problems such as rustling noises or poorly placed bodypack transmitters.

Students were able to try out various professional setups, including tools from Bubblebee Industries, URSA, Hide-A-Mic, DPA (4061 & 6061) - and of course our MTP61 transmitters.

The workshop was conducted by lecturer for original sound Antoine Schweitzer, with technical and organizational support from laboratory engineer Till Gerneth.
