Here is another one of those sentences that seems so obvious...

Grammatically, it translates perfectly. It checks out. It looks safe.

But to a native ear... it just sounds a bit weird! 😅 In English, “passion” is an incredibly heavy, dramatic word—we save it for deep life missions, not our casual hobbies! 🌋

This is just one example of the many subtle ways language goes beyond simple word-for-word translation. Just because two words share the same Latin roots doesn’t mean they’re used the exact same way across cultures. Quello che in italiano suona normale, in inglese rischia di sembrare una telenovela drammatica! 🎭

❌ A proposito: lo sapevi che in inglese non ci vestiamo affatto “a cipolla”? Se dicessi “I dress like an onion” a un madrelingua, non avrebbe assolutamente alcun senso!

🇺🇸 In inglese diciamo semplicemente “to dress in layers” (vestirsi a strati). Devo ammetterlo... l’italiano qui è decisamente più divertente e fantasioso!
