We participated to great discussions and presentations regarding the implementation of 5G in Italy, in a major event organized by Gildo Campesato of CorCom. We found out that, unexpectedly to most, and after EU reports, Italy is ahead in Europe on FTTC and FTTH planning and deployment, which is mandatory for 5G. There is a program called BUL (Banda Ultra Larga - Ultrabroadband) that is being implemented on a country-wide basis, initially on selected cities, by an independent, Government sponsored, wholesale fiber infrastructure called 'Open Fiber'. All existing (and future) services providers may access Open Fiber for their own 'slice' of the 5G network (big issue for TIM - the Italian incumbent, who owns the existing copper wire and FTTC network). The overall plan was described by prof. Maurizio Decina, (president, Infratel). Round tables discussed plans, on-going deployments, required 'greenfield' infrastructure investments and market demand.
Regulation and frequency allocation are big challenges that are being addressed and various solutions are already endorsed by the EU.

Very interesting presentations at the SES Networks seminar held in Rome. There were a number of discussions around SES' reorganization and about SES Networks approach to new market trends. Very good and convincing GEO and MEO integrated solutions offer. Congratulations to the SES team who organized and presented in such an interesting event!

Meeting Samantha Cristoforetti, the Italian ISS astronaut, has been an inspiring experience!!

We participated to the SES Innovation Days held in Luxembourg last Tuesday and Wednesday. There were a number of very interesting focus topics that were discussed, such as Driving Innovation in Space and on the Ground, Ultra HD 4k and 8K, How the satellite antennas are changing, Virtual Reality, and innovation in the DTH markets.
Great presentations, among many others, from SES, MX1, Euroconsult, Dolby, Aser Media, ESA, O3B, Fraunhoffer, Nagra, Satixfy.
A lot of new potential business for Geospace!

Geospace participated to the 4th Hispasat Innovation Days event held in Milan last week. In the event a number of interesting topics were discussed, such as the future of video distribution, UHDTV, Hispasat presence in Italy, the Hispasat satellite fleet, the growth of the mobility market and ground segment technology. in the picture is Ignacio Sanchis, CCO of Hispasat welcoming the delegates.
