Sono passati tre mesi dalla tua scomparsa. Faccio ancora fatica ad accettare tutto ciò. Per due settimane ho pianto continuamente come un f***e; come se avessi perso un fratello. Piangevo, piangevo, piangevo e mi chiedevo perchè stessi piangendo così tanto. Più piangevo e più ricordavo il tuo splendido sorriso, la tua simpatia, il tuo umorismo, la tua dolcezza, la tua bontà. Più piangevo e più capivo perchè. Eri una splendida persona, buona e sempre gentile. Eri davvero speciale. Eri un batterista fenomenale, un genio, un vero talento. Con te non ho mai avuto nessun tipo di problema. Sei stato l'unica persona con cui ho suonato tranquillamente senza avere mai nessun tipo di disagio. Quando suonavamo eravamo professionali. Forse perchè fondamentalmente tu eri professionale in tutto. Ricordo benissimo il nostro primo incontro nel lontano 1995. Io avevo dodici anni e ci incontravamo ogni settimana durante le lezioni di batteria. Tu portavi spesso la maglietta di In Utero dei Nirvana e venivi con la vespa, portavi la borsa militare con scritte e disegni e poi ne hai comprata una per me. Erano gli anni novanta. Ti ammiravo profondamente e tutte le volte che ti vedevo ti abbracciavo forte. Poi finalmente il mio sogno di suonare con te si è realizzato nel 2003 e quando suonavo con te tutto era equilibrato e dinamico. Arrivavi nel mio garage, oppure suonavano nel tuo; ti sedevi e suonavi perfettamente i miei brani. Abbiamo provato a realizzare un disco insieme. Purtroppo per problemi tecnici alcune tracce delle riprese microfoniche e delle registrazioni sono scomparse. Sto cercando di recuperare il materiale e di fare un nuovo missaggio; soprattutto di completare quelle registrazioni e di chiudere i brani. Dedicherò tutto a te, mi impegnerò fino in fondo per realizzare quello che stavamo realizzando e che non abbiamo portato a termine perchè sei partito a Milano per far sentire il tuo talento al nord. Alessio eri gentile e disponibile con tutti. Mi manchi caro amico, mi manchi molto. Ti porterò sempre nel mio cuore e ricorderò tutti i momenti belli passati con te.

ValveCaster Overdrive (Matsumin)

Tube Overdrive and Boost from 12 volts
A very interesting overdrive circuit using a 12AU7 tube powered by nothing more than a 12 volt battery. This nifty idea.
Matsumin's Valve Caster, a 12AU7-based booster and light overdrive running at 9 volts. A very fun little circuit that has a minimal parts count and actually generates a good amount of boost and some overdrive. It uses a low voltage, and in fact this design is called a starved tube.
It's a distinctive pedal, very nice and it sounds good.
Effectiveness simple tone control.
A simple 12AU7 low-voltage tube circuit that saturates super easily, thus creating a nice valve overdrive crunch without too much effort or volume. It's a nice effect.
6.3V Regulated Heater Supply
Some experimental modifications were applied in this model. Two main changes have been made to the original, which are worth considering. Heater power supply adjusted to 6.3 V
The first and most significant change is using a voltage regulator IC to get 6ish volts for the heaters, and wiring them in parallel for the tube rather than in series.
Why? The original Valvecaster design put 9V directly to the tube in series, basically giving it only 75% of the voltage the heater for a 12AU7 expects. This would heat the tube up just enough to conduct, but likely puts it right on the edge of effective conductance, leading to additional distortion that, while maybe desirable for this application, isn't ideal in terms of a pure tube overdrive.
There are lots of reports of the Valvecaster sounding better when fed 12V, and I would bet the heater design is one of the main reasons, as opposed to the 9V (dropped more via the 220kΩ resistor) on the plate. Tubes conduct linearly down to very low plate voltages, but they don't do so hot (no pun intended) without the right heater voltage.
How do you do it? 12A*X tubes are interesting in that they generally have two options for heater wiring. You can either wire them as 12.6 volts in series through pins 4-5 (so each heater side effectively sees 6.3 volts as the resistor that it is), or 6.3 volts to both pin 4 and pin 5 with pin 9 hooked to ground for parallel operation, so each side of the heater gets its own 6.3V.
The Sound
To enjoy this pedal totally it must be played by firing the volumes and setting the gain to maximum. At low volumes it sounds like an overdrive as light as a TS808, but at high volumes it has its own thing.
