I've been using WordPress for over a decade and have always wanted to meet the mind behind this open-source software that powers over 43% of the web and empowers people worldwide, including myself. At WordCamp Europe 2024, I had the privilege of meeting WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg.

Since discovering WordPress, I have been continuously learning and contributing to its ecosystem. I've not only benefited from this community but have also given back by helping others learn WordPress and contributing to events like Meetups and WordCamps. My involvement has opened up many opportunities and connected me with a global network of people.

Great day today at WordCamp Europe. I connected with old friends and made some new ones.

Super excited to have connected with folks from companies behind amazing products in the WordPress ecosystem.

The biggest opportunities in the African tech space are within communities. Starting or contributing to building existing communities offers the biggest opportunity for growth, networking, and collaboration.

✔️Community events such as meetups, hangouts, conferences, etc., are the fastest way to close the digital gap and help people access the diverse opportunities digital skills present.

✔️Being an emerging market means companies wanting to break in will partner with existing communities. Communities can also use their numbers and value proposition to negotiate partnerships or promote products. 💰

✔️Communities are perhaps the best place to build networks and get referrals. 💰

✔️ Communities offer the platform to build credibility and establish oneself as an authority in a niche.

✔️Communities are a great source of product feedback and product champions. Some of the biggest products in the world have active communities.

I’ve been involved in building tech communities for over 7 years and can confidently say this is where the biggest opportunity is. I’ve watched people grow from newbies to experts and gain financial stability from just being part of tech communities. Its been incredibly fulfilling to witness the positive impact on people's lives. This is, without a doubt, the most significant reward of communities.
