A new album from The Impending Blindness? You know Andy requested it get reviewed, and I'm happy to check it out. Well, this one is definitely a bit different than pretty much every other Impending Blindness album so far. This project has been crushingly heavy from the very beginning, but every album seems to have been getting gradually heavier, this one being the most intense by far. While the ultra down-tuned doomy guitar tone is still prevalent on here, this album has much more of a death metal/deathgrind feel to it than anything else. Almost all of the songs are delivered in short bursts generally under 3 minutes in length, with much more emphasis on buzzsaw riffing and blast beats. But, the one thing that makes this album really stick out from the others is that it actually includes vocals throughout a majority of it. Up to this point, The Impending Blindness has been almost completely instrumental other than an occasional growl or snippets of what I can only surmise are various horror films. And while it did make the albums unique that they were largely instrumental, because the music was also mostly riff-based, I did sometimes feel that the previous album could have benefited with some vocals. This album finally delivers on that, and the vocals are fitting with the music. Ultra intense death growling/screaming that has that definite grindcore feel it, which goes naturally with the crushing music. I've only listened to it a couple times so far and I am liking it quite a bit, so I think this album is likely to become a standout to me in the Impending Blindness catalog.
