Waste disposal
All waste that has been in contact with someone who may be infected, including used tissues, and masks if used, should be:
1. put in a plastic rubbish bag and tied when full
2. placed in a second bin bag and tied
3. put in a safe place and marked for storage until the test result is available
If the individual tests negative, this can be put in the normal waste.
If the individual tests positive, you will be instructed what to do with the waste.

Guidance COVID-19: cleaning in non-healthcare settings Updated 19 March 2020
Waste from possible cases and cleaning of areas where possible cases have been (including disposable cloths and tissues):
1. Should be put in a plastic rubbish bag and tied when full.
2. The plastic bag should then be placed in a second bin bag and tied.
3. It should be put in a suitable and secure place and marked for storage until the individual’s test results are known.
Waste should be stored safely and kept away from children. You should not put your waste in communal waste areas until negative test results are known or the waste has been stored for at least 72 hours.
• if the individual tests negative, this can be put in with the normal waste
• if the individual tests positive, then store it for at least 72 hours and put in with the normal waste
If storage for at least 72 hours is not appropriate, arrange for collection as a Category B infectious waste either by your local waste collection authority if they currently collect your waste or otherwise by a specialist clinical waste contractor. They will supply you with orange clinical waste bags for you to place your bags into so the waste can be sent for appropriate treatment.

When cleaning you should use your usual household products, like detergents and bleach, as these will be very effective at getting rid of the virus on surfaces. Clean frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, handrails, remote controls and table tops. This is particularly important if you have an older or vulnerable person in the house.
Personal waste (such as used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external household waste bin.
Other household waste can be disposed of as normal.

Why is it so difficult for people to deal with their waste correctly?
These images are from the St Martin Public Hall Car Park Bring Bank site, the owner of the new bed could have cut up the cardboard box and placed this in one of the cardboard recycling bins and out the rest of the packaging out with their normal refuse, instead the person decided to move everything 400 metres and illegally fly tip at the Bring Bank Site.

The Department for Growth, Housing & Environment are launching their 'Just Glass' campaign on 1st September 2018 to raise the awareness of the Public to the issues caused by contamination of glass bins.
The only items that will be emptied from glass bins will be clean glass, bottles and jars with lids, corks, caps and plastic labels removed.
Failure to comply will result in the bins not being emptied until all contamination has been removed when the next collection is scheduled.
If your bin is not emptied, it will need to be taken by the householder to the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre at La Collette.
If it is not glass, DO NOT put it in the glass bin !

Acorn Bring Bank Recycling site today, when someone has taken the trouble to transport 6 bin liners filled with refuse, you would have though that they could have disposed of them in the correct manner.
Every time we a re having to deal with the correct disposal of fly tipping, there is a cost down the line !
