On Jamaica’s south coast, between Lacovia and Middle Quarters in the parish of St. Elizabeth, there lies a two and half mile stretch of road, lined with glorious bamboo plants that soar above the road and intersect in the middle where they create a shady tunnel. This is Bamboo Avenue. It was established by the owners of Holland Estate in the 17th century to protect the road from erosion and provide shade for travelers.
