فى ظل اكتساح نظام أندرويد للعمل على الهواتف الخلوية واللوحات الذكية وتراجع شديد لمايعرف باسم Windows phone و Blackberry، قامت شركة Canonical العالمية بإصدار توزيعة جديدة من عائلة Ubuntu تحت اسم Ubuntu Touch، ولكنها هذه المرة ليست لأجهزة سطح المكتب، وإنما للعمل كنظام تشغيل رئيسى للهواتف الخلوية واللوحات الذكية. وكانت شركة MEIZU أول من تبنى هذه التوزيعة للعمل بها رسميا على أجهزتها، حيث أصدرت هواتفها MEIZU MX4 العاملة بنظام Ubuntu Touch.
